2010 Pritzker Prize Goes To Japanese Arhcitects Kazuyo Sejima And Ryue Nishizawa

Artek Opens Showroom In New York City

Herman Miller Releases 3Q10 Earnings

Bruce J. Graham, Designer Of Sears Tower, Dies At 84

3.12.10 | Hobe Sound, FL | Bruce J. Graham designer of the Sears Tower, Chicago, IL, died at the age of 84. The 110-story Sears Tower, now the Willis Tower, was the tallest building in the world when it was completed in 1974. Mr. Graham also was instrumental in the design of Chicago's Hancock Center in 1970. Other projects include the Inland Steel building and the Chicago Civic Center. Mr. Graham was an architect with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill until his retirement in 1989.

KI Rallies Relief Efforts For Haitian Employees

RTKL To Design Shanghai Hospital

CEDIA To Host Online And Instructor-Led Training For Lead-Based Paint Certification

Raimund Abraham Dies In Car Accident

BIFMA Brief For January From Raymond James

3.5.10 | St. Petersburg, FL | Investment analyst Budd Bugatch of Raymond James & Associates provided commentary on January office furniture order and shipment statistics released by the Business and Institutional Manufacturers Association (BIFMA). Orders of $480 million for the month were down 15% compared with last year and also down from $630 million in December. January shipments decreased 12% year-over-year to $555 million, down from $720 in December. Mr. Bugatch noted that while the January statistics "were somewhat discouraging," the year-over-year rate of decline on a trailing twelve-month basis for both orders and shipments actually showed slight improvement.

EMCOR's Energy Services Unit Receives BPA From GSA

Inscape Corporation Announces Third Quarter Results

GSA Sustainable Development Guide Wins APA Award

3.3.10 | Washington, DC | HOK, the General Services Administration, and the University of Maryland, earned a top award from the Federal Planning Division of the American Planning Association. Together they authored a guide for sustainable development in the federal government that is being recognized in the "Outstanding Sustainable Planning, Design and Development Initiative" category. The 40-page guidebook, The New Sustainable Frontier: Frinciples of Sustainable Development, was published in September 2009.

Design-Team Selected For Byron G. Rogers Federal Office Building Project

3.2.10 | Denver, CO | The General Service Administration officially selected the design-build team for the modernization of the Byron G. Rogers Federal Office Building in Denver, CO. The team includes: Mortenson Construction, Bennett Wagner & Grody Architects, HOK, The RMH Group, Inc., Rocky Mountain Institute, and Martin/Martin, Inc.  Work on the 620,000 sq. ft. building includes complete design and construction for upgrades to the structural elements and all major building systems.  The building upgrades are projected to reduce energy use by more than 80% over current levels and attain LEED Platinum certification.
